Long-term observations of hourly currents along the SAMBA transect at SAMBA Mooring 4, December 2015 - April 2017

The South African component of the international South Atlantic Meridional Overturning Circulation project (SAMOC-SA) aims to characterize the time-mean and time-varying components of the SAMOC in the South Atlantic Ocean and monitor the variability of the main Southern Ocean frontal systems associated with the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC), south of Africa. Here we present processed magnitude and direction of hourly currents in the upper part of the water column (26.39 - 290.39m) from an ADCP located at a depth of 312m at Mooring 4 (34.29465°S; 17.8803°E) along the South Atlantic MOC Basin-scale Array (SAMBA) transect in the Cape Basin region of the South Atlantic Ocean, between 30 November 2015 and 05 April 2017.
